View from above

Recently, I watched a men’s doubles match with four guys that I frequently play tennis with. Having friends on both teams, I was torn about who to cheer for. Instead, being in the room above the court, I focused on observing how the teams played together, court coverage, service motions and shot selection.

This view from above left me almost wishing I could watch myself play.  But I’m sure I would be mortified by all my errors. That got me thinking -  do you have an inner tennis voice telling you what to do or what not to? Do you follow your instincts? Or do you simply play the ball that is in front of you?

I tend to be hard on myself, especially for making unforced errors. But seeing and acknowledging those mishits, I hope, will make me better. Do you think that you are you too hard on yourself or not hard enough?

What's your take ?
