I had the good fortune to go to the US Open twice last week paying too much for food and drinks. While there I saw an USTA ad on a billboard with the title Healthy Pals followed by the tagline “Tennis helps keep and build friendships.”
On Saturday, I was at Armstrong Stadium watching Jannik Sinner vs Stan Wawrinka. At one point during their match, Stan stumbled as he went after a ball. Sinner won the point and then walked towards the net looking at Stan with a thumbs up to check that he was okay. Stan was and indicated as such.
I loved witnessing this interaction as it showed caring, respect and friendship during the heat of competition when both players were focused on winning.
While in the city, I got to meet up with old and new friends on and off the court which was lovely. I believe that tennis does help keep and build friendships. It is why we are building AD-IN where we hope you will connect with old and new friends.
