From Jazz Notes to Tennis Strokes
Two days ago, as NYC Halloween parade was going through the streets, I was at Village Vanguard, quite literally in the heart of the Halloween madness. As the first notes of piano filled the air, the outside chaos faded away, and we were in a different world. The kind where you are so absorbed that everything else vanishes.
Doesn’t tennis feel the same for many of us? The surroundings blur, the day’s worries drift away and all that remains is me, my opponent and that yellow ball. Just like the improvisational flow of jazz, tennis has its own rhythm, a dance of power and finesse. Each serve, volley and rally, much like every chord and note in jazz, requires a presence of mind.
For me, tennis is more than a game. When I play my thoughts align, the clutter of daily life disappears and clarity emerges. And often, after these moments of pure engagement, I find solutions to situations where I’ve been stuck.
We have two exciting events next week. Join us to share tennis stories, play doubles and make new tennis friends.
